No. The original idea of the min. wage was for employers to be able to hire people into trainee positions, giving them experience and realizing that they needed a place to learn. It was not designed to support a family as described by some of today's politicians.
Raising the min. wage will raise the price of everything you purchase. There's no way to avoid passing increased costs onto the customer. Small business is the largest employment base in this country. Between the taxes levied on them and the increase cost of trainee labor, expect prices to go up.
These small businesses aren't owned by millionaires but people trying to make a comfortable living by risking their money and time in a small business.

They need to raise minimum wage. I make a few dollars more than minimum, and I can barely live with the cost of living these day. I also live in Louisiana, which is one of the lowest paying states around. Since Katrina, the cost of housing like apartments has almost doubled and the pay rate hasn't really much changed. With a college degree, you'd think I'd be making at least $25,000 starting off. I think that's another thing they should change. Before you graduate college there should be a program or 3 credit course that puts you in a job before graduation. A lot needs to change, but that doens't mean it will. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

I make minimum wage in Michigan, I'm seventeen, live with my parents, and don't have extra mouths to feed, I cant even imagine having to live on my paycheck and support bills and a family. Sometimes I have difficulty paying off my phone bill and netflix. Min. wage was set to make sure workers could meet bare min. standards of living, if it was working that way, then it wouldn't be considered below the poverty level. Morgan Spurlock did a show on min. wage on 30 Days, and let me tell you, anyone who thinks raising minimum wage is a bad idea, should check out this episode.
