Research your prospective invention company very carefully. The one that I dealt with not only charged me over $1000.00, they modified my idea very slightly and now it's on the market but I don't get a dime from it.
I've read that most if not all of these companies are rip-off artists.
There are inventors newsgroups and alliances that you may want to look into first. see Usenet groups and google for local alliances in your area.

Dude, don't use those idiotic invention submission companies. They are all a SCAM. If you really want to get a patent, you'll need to fork over some cash and get a patent attorney or a patent agent. A patent agent is cheaper, but they are more limited in what they can do for you. Just be aware that it will be expensive, and there are a lot of fees in addition to your attorney/agents hourly rates.

Yeah, a patent attorney is what you are needing.
Be careful, there are lots of patent scams out there. Most of them do not involve stealing your idea. Most involve getting you to pay for stuff you do not need. I really advise you to check out these websites and to get info on preventing you from falling prey to a patent scam. Remember, most of these scams are not interested in your idea, they just want your money.
