I'm using circular knitting needles to make an afghan, but they keep twisting and making it difficult to actually knit. I'm constantly untwisting them.

Any suggestions on how to stop them from twisting?

Thank you

You can soften them up first by putting them in warm water and letting them "rest" before using, if these are plastic or polymer needles/cables.

But some brands twist more than others; they are not all made the same way and some brands are "better" than others in that they are smoother at the join of the needle to cable, make less noise as you click the needles together while working stitches, etc. It's personal preference as to which ones you buy and use most often.

As for twisting as you work, sometimes this is due to the way you are holding them and working stitches back and forth on them.

Here is a video free online to watch, on ht properly use these needles; maybe this will help get them to stop twisting:

Some brands of circulars come with stiffer cables than other brands. One way to straighten them out is to run hot water over the cable (you'll have to remove the needle from the work first) and hold it out straight, and when you remove it from the hot water hold it for a few seconds until it cools down. That will help a great deal.

I've found that the cables on Addi Turbo or Addi Natura needles are much more flexible than Susan Bates or Clover. The Addis are more expensive, but way less annoying.

contained in the known knitting international, you employ a round that's shorter than the gap round you're making. i come across short needles like that too demanding for me to artwork on with my larger hands. I opt to apply an truly lengthy needle, perchance 36" or extra. i exploit the Magic Loop approach. it will be too demanding for a newbie... or perchance no longer. I also locate i like operating with 2 short round needles. each and every knits merely 1/2 the way round... and also you'll use any length you've reachable. manufacturers will want you to purchase each and every length needle and each and every length. i do not locate you want to attempt this. at the same time as some human beings will locate it puzzling to knit the smaller circumference close to the proper, it would want to nonetheless be executed with the Magic Loop approach. in reality, palms of gloves would properly be executed with a 40" circ! you would possibly want to wish to apply double-pointed needles instead. you extra often than not pick the length of needle in accordance to the length of yarn you're utilizing, your knitting stress, and the type of fabric you want to knit. that's why you extra often than not knit a pattern piece to attempt out the progression, the yarn, and the needle length. that's continuously properly worth spending somewhat time getting it correct, somewhat than do the finished component and then rip it out. properly, a minimum of for me; my time is effective.
