Japan. Japan uses body language that is totally different from Western (especially American) body language. Also, the Japanese use the laugh to mask their true feelings. Depending on the situation, a Japanese person will laugh to mask feelings of embarrassment, anger, surprise, disappointment, antagonism, or awkwardness. When a Japanese man rubs the nape of his neck and sucks air in through his teeth, it means he was caught off-guard and is unsure of what to do next.
The Japanese signal you to come closer by raising their hand parallel to the ground, palm down, with fingers extended then folding their fingers inward towards the palm. This looks a lot like the American signal for "get lost" so I was really confused the first time I saw this.
One more interesting tidbit... To refuse an offer or indicate disagreement with something, the Japanese wave one hand side to side with the hand perpendicular to the ground as if waving off cigarette smoke. Japanese businessmen I know first had trouble in coffee shops in America since when they declined the waitress' offer for more coffee, they always ended up getting more coffee anyway!

I think Latins are the culture that uses the most nonverbal behaviors, we have a lot of body language going on and are very expressive in our facials body expressions. You can certainly find a lot of information in the Internet about Latins nonverbal behaviors. Italians would be interesting.

Well the deaf culture uses a lot of nonverbal behaviors. You should write on how they use sign language to communicate and how the deaf community does have a culture of their own.

Chimpanzees! The status of “culture” is still being debated, you can use W. C. McGrew as a source for the argument supporting they have culture. He has plenty of examples in his books on nonverbal communication (grooming hand clasp is a big one that stands out in my mind). De Waal also has interesting anecdotes in his books. Also, if you use chimpanzees to include Bonobos, you can examine Kanzi’s use of lexigrams and hand signals (some self taught) to communicate with humans.

I think you could easily argue a valid case for nonverbal communication in primate species....gorillas, chimpanzees, and maybe a few others. Chimps have been observed in the wild hunting in coordinated groups. Direct eye contact is considered a threatening gesture. Social Grooming. I think those would all qualify.
