Securities is any type of investment. Shares is a specific party of an investment that you purchase as a part of that investment, I.E. Shares of stock. Stock is the security.

Securities, are proof of ownership of an asset
Like shares (above) bonds (a loan to a company or Government, A Certificate of deposit (loan to a bank or financial institution.
