You mean, apart from the differences in languages, culture, history, as well as politically and socially?

They use different types of chopsticks (Japanese ones come to more of a point); ethnically, they're fairly similar - the thing about the eyes is a myth.

The Japanese drive on the left hand side of the road; the Chinese drive on the right.

The Japanese have a propensity for extreme minute detail - in their cooking and art; think also of Bonsai trees and Japanese tea ceremonies.

The Chinese don't have that.

The traditional woman's dress is Kimono in Japan, a very different thing from the Chinese Qi Pao.

They come from different countries and speak different languages and have totally different cultures! Different race!
I'm really sorry you had to ask that question but it just shows people the state of the eduaction system and that there are still so many uncultured people in this country. Other countries do their best to learn about other country and cultures, but this country ( I presume you are in the UK) seem so naive about so much! I have lived in Germany, the British citizens, although do want to learn the German language, they presume that all the Germans know how to speak English! The Germans are in right in deliberately not speaking English to those who do not try to learn their language or cultures when going there on holiday or living there.
Before you say anything, I am chinese, I was born here. But i've only ever been asked such a question by a child.
Sorry, I'm just so shocked that an adult would ask this.

Like between Germans and Swedes?????

Ummmm, Culture, land, I think they are different ethnicities...they look different!!!!

The Chinese and Japenese have animosity since Japan invaded during the 30's or 40's.

Language...I think Japanese has a phonetic alphebet, Chinese does not. Less population in Japan. I think women are more valued in Japan (China has the highest suicide rate for females in the world).

Can't think of anything else...don't really know much about Asia.

They both have the same skin colour. The differences is that they have different lifestyle and culture and Japanese like to take raw fish meat while the Chinese prefer cook food.

The Chinese come from China, speak Chinese and are under the control of a Communist government. They are payed poorly and often abused by their employers. They eat most types of animals including dog, cat and alligator. They are pleasant people to be around unless you are Japanese who they often don't like due to going to war with them a lot. The Japanese government is a democracy run by Shinso Abe who is a leader for the lib dems. They are hard working and pride themselves on their achievements. Many business men support their families on one wage and a large percentage of Japanese attend University (around 80per cent). This question is like asking what is the difference between the English and the French? Do some research on the countries if you are interested.

First difference is language, second the chinese are a bit pale in colour and third but most important is that the Chinese have edges of their eyes pointed upwards slightly whereas japanese eyes are pointed straight towards ears.

first of all, its the language- japanese people say 'kanichiwa', whilst chinese say 'lei ho', both meaning 'hello'. secondly, japanese people eat raw fish, chinese people prefer to cook theirs and serve it. thirdly japanese people's eyes are more slitted and in a upright position, whilst chinese eyes are slightly more opened though still slitted. fourth, unlike japanese people, chinese people come from either hong kong or people's republic of china. if they are from hong kong, they are referred to as hong kong chinese. japanese people speak japanese, whilst hong kong chinese speak cantonese. in china, Mandarin is more frequently spoken throughout that region than cantonese. fifth, karate is a japanese martial art whilst kung fu is the chinese equivalent.

the only things we have in common is both china and japan are neighbouring or rival countries in the far east, depending on which way you read it and we eat with chopsticks. plus the writing styles are somewhat similar to each other
