There can be many issues, on is on older computers the CD drive needed a cable to the mother board to hear sound, new mother boards do not require this. If it worked before it could be something wrong with you sound card, if it works with other sources that's not it. Not having the right Codex installed could cause it, you don't say what kind of file, a DVD or MP# etc.

Well I don't know what media player you are using or what format but I had to download an AC3 Filter in order to hear certain movies that use Divx Player. You can search for a free download on the internet. I forget where I found mine. Try to make sure it's a reputable site. Maybe on cnet.com? Good Luck.

Is there a volume control in the DVD software you use, as well as the volume control on your computer. Check both of those - one may be turned down or off.

You probably do not have the required codec installed to convert the sound to sound output.

Try this link to MS and download the codec package and install.

If not install DivX and try.

Also try upgrading to Media Player 11 at the MS website
