1. You are misinformed. Most days are a saint's day. If you share the same name, then that is your saint's day. That's all it is.

2. Just to confuse the matter, there are different calendars of saints' days

Dia Del Santo

According to the spanish tradition, many spanish names come from a Canonized Catholic Church Saint. As for example José (Joseph) comes from San José (St. Joseph) Jesus's terrenal father.

It is usual that in Spain and Latin America besides the birhday you celebrate the day of your saint ( the one who gives your name). There is a Roman Catholic calendar of saints where you find the celebration dates of all Saints along the year. Moreover, 50 years ago it was usual to get the name of the saint whose celebration was at the same day of your birthday (many poor children got for this reason really funny names lol ), thanks God, it is not this way anymore.

About foods, the way it will be celebrated etc. it depends on the country. In some countries this day will not be celebrated anymore, in some of them the person will be just congratulated, in some a big party will be made. There is no standard way to deal with it.

Dear musiu_200:

I am not missinformed. You are basically right in your information but since the question is about "día del santo" , the spanish sentence means mostly what I have already explained . You say in spanish "El día del Santo" or "El día de mi santo" when you speak about what I have already explained
