This is for all the true hockey fans out there. Is Modano a shoo-in for hockey's hallowed Hall? I ask because soon Modano will become the all-time leading scorer among American-born players. He did win a Stanley Cup with the Stars (in 1999), but...
1. He has not won a major NHL award.
2. He has never had a 100 point season (although he did have a couple of 90 point seasons back in the early 1990's).
3. Until 1999, and seemingly every year since, he has been a spotty playoff performer.
4. He does have an Olympic silver medal to his credit (although he was merely average during the 2002 Games), but has been a spotty performer in international play also.
Sound off!

I think that stats are only part of the determining factors on eligibility. Modano has provided something more important to hockey, a name and a face that new fans of the game,(that perhaps didn't grow up with hockey as most of us Canucks did), could recognize and have as a role model to learn and enjoy the game from. I think he has helped advance interest in the game in the United States, in an area that has exploded with hockey interest, and that should warrant inclusion into the Hall...

Ok, listen up. Mike Modano will be a hall-of famer for the fact that he has won a stanly cup. He is soon to be the all time best scorer amung american born players. And to tell you the truth some of the stuff you said is wrong, he has won a gold medal at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. He has been at the All-Star game 7-times and once as the captain. He holds 8 franchise records for the Stars and NorthStars. Plus Modano is aleader off the ice, so in my opinion I think he'll have no problem getting in the hall of fame.

I hate the guy (he looks like the prototypical, conceited "grotesque American", and it particularly annoys me. See additionally: Elway, John) yet there is no denying what a large participant he became. i think of he's a hall of Famer. I consider Bob that the HHOF must be the very better of the terrific. however the reality is that the HHOF falls someplace between the baseball HOF (extremely unique) and the soccer HOF (play 2 or greater seasons and you're in). provided that reality, i think of Modano will make it.

Hands down he will go into the hall.
Many players didn't win the cup, or score loads of points, or win a gold.
But, he was a solid leader for a solid team for over a decade.
He never changed teams, and didn't want to.
He is an american, which is amazing in its own way.

It would be a shame for him to not make the Hall. He is an extremely talented hockey player and makes people on his team better. If (when) he becomes the leading scorer, then it's a definite (if it's not already).

I think eventually he'll make it to the hall but it might take some time to get there. I find the NHL are not as picky as MLB and NFL when it comes to Hall of Famers. He deserves to be in there - He's always represented the US and the NHL pretty well.

Mike Modano was a great role player but never a superstar. I don't see him getting a hall of fame plaque.

He can't even make Captain of the team he's been with for like 18 years.
Overrated and Under-talented.
