Thank you. I really think the Dems have their match made out for them. In a time like this, when the US is at the highest risk of being attacked, it would be hard to depend on a Democrat to take the fight to the other country. This is one reason Republicans have the advantage. They won't wait till we get hit and then respond. They will respond before we get hit. this is something the country sincerely needs right now and a majority of people know this. i will get some thumbs down for this because a few don't agree, but it's the truth.

Oh my! I lean Republican too, but I'm not as argumentative!
I think the big problem came in 1972. The Democratic Party seemed to have purged itself of people viewed as strong on defense, such as Scoop Jackson (witness what happened to Lieberman), and they have never really recovered.
They also lost the south, partly for this reason. Some will carp that the Democrats lost it because they finally came out for civil rights, but the Republicans were never against them! They did oppose race-based hiring and admissions. Funny how if a Republican wins the White House all the southern states are deemed "racist," yet when Carter and Clinton both swept the south we never hear this.
Democrats were also identified with the welfare state and as being too liberal on social issues. Again, JFK favored tax cuts, was strong (if sometimes misguided) on defense and the promotion of freedom, and I strongly doubt he was a supporter of abortion, much less same-sex "marriage." He would probably be treated like a Lieberman today.
The Republicans blew it in congress, though, by appearing to be spendthrift and corrupt, and by unhappiness with the war. (I hope this is not a long-term trend!) I'm also hoping for more people to enter the primaries.

Bill Clinton (unfortunately) wasn't impeached and its the Shah of Iran. Other than the two minor over sites your absolutely right.
The dude above me is right, McCain isn't my first choice either, on the other hand Giuliani is the man!! I would love to see him with C. Rice as a running mate. But like the guy said allot can happen in two years.

i am going to assume your data are precise. Republicans, for all their faults, seem to often be prepared to adhere to their note. in addition they often trust in purpose truth: that there is in reality a strong and evil, a correct and a incorrect. i imagine that is largely thanks to the incontrovertible actuality that maximum congressional republicans are non secular christians. even if the democrats imagine that is stupid is irrelevant. regulations of administration dictate merely that leaders ought to steer. most suitable ability taking a stand for what's correct, even with worry of being incorrect. Democrats presently were very strong at criticizing republican administration at the same time as providing little options of their own, keep for "get out of Iraq." that isn't any longer a answer. that is resign. that's loss. that's no marvel that the final American citizenry see the conservatives as extra effective leaders, because they stand compared to democrats.

Actually 28 out of 40. The proximate reason is that Republicans have won 7 of the last 10 presidential elections. The ultimate reason is that people can't trust the Dems with the security of our Nation.

people are starting to see McCain for what he is. There's no chance for him to be president. Where are you getting those poll numbers from? The election is two years away, lots of time for things to change.

Hmm - Nixon was a crook, Ford pardoned him, Reagan was a crook who couldn't remember anything, GHW Bush broke his tax promise, and little Bush is a total disaster. Good track record.
