the biggest way he could have impacted the world was as a political figure. after the Beatles broke up, John stayed outta the spotlight for a long time. when he came back, all the people that were young beatles fans had grown up and were ready to listen to their hero talk about the world. he could have told them anything, and they'd have listened every time. luckily, he told them that we should work towards peace globally. this really didnt sit very well with the government though, the political climate at the time was actually somewhat similar to how things are now. the government didnt want some random rock star telling people things they felt the public shouldnt be involved in, so he was placed under constant surveillance, and labelled as an enemy of the state. that kinda backfired though, because ppl saw their hero being persecuted, and that gained him even more sympathy and public support. a lot of people out there still think that his assassination might have been set up by the government. i personally think it was just a crazy fan.
anyhow, Lennon polarized people, and incited strong emotions both positively and negatively. everyone out there was divided into those who agreed with him, and those against him, JUST like a politician.

The day was December 8, 1980. The day that John Lennon died.
That was one of the saddest days in my life, being a Beatles fan.
Lennon left a little magic in this world. He tried to keep people focused on peace and love and understanding. He was a prolific and great songwriter. One of his songs done at Christmas time is a reflection on what 'Xmas time really is. What have we done?
What have we accomplished?
He has also been an influence on my life. I am a novice guitarist and have played and learned many of his songs including 'Imagine' and songs from his last album in 1980.
The Beatles and Lennon in particular, impacted the world in a huge way. Suddenly there were these four guys with mop haircuts making music and thrilling thousands of fans in evey city they went to. They taught us to listen to ourselves, be loving, be happy and best of all, keep the peace in a time of the Vietnam conflict.
Happy Christmas. War is Over. Rest in peace, John & George.

John Lennon was a visionary. An idealist. He brought alternatives
to political problems and reached people through his music and philosophy. He was actually dangerous to the power structure because he had the ability to influence people when people were told that there was really NO other choices. He had the ability to 'open minds'. Also he worked in bringing people together instead of being devisive throughout the world. He was quoted as saying something to the effect that he was 'more popular that Christ'. I don't know if he said that.If he did, yes that would be a far fetched thing to say.

Other than being a great songwriter and he did promote peace in his own way, but he did something else for us that grew up in the 60'sand 70's. Could it be his charisma? He just seemed to tie it all in somehow. When he died, I had never met him, but both my husband and I wept silently. We both surprised ourselves. We were in such shock , we just sat on the couch , held hands and wept. I've only witnessed my husband weeping one other time and it was when his father passed away.

In my opinion, he opened a lot of peoples eyes. In his music, he told what a soul can be, all the pain, joy, sorrow and love a person can experience. He influenced many people to pursue a life in peace and love, and tried to promote education of the realities of war and poverty.
