Many of you think that MUSLIM = TERRORIST. Not so long ago we used to think that Irish Catholic = I.R.A. = TERRORIST. for those of you too young to remember, we in the UK were regularly blown to pieces by the I.R.A. however most intelligent people realised that they were a small minority.

I think there are a few answers to your question. First....9/11 was the first significant foreign terrorism this country had ever experienced. We overreacted as a nation. While we condemned nations like Israel and England for extreme reactions to terrorism, we promptly went about immitating them the day after.

I think we (I know I am VERY guilty of this) thought we were safe. We felt insulated from that terrorism problem that was really only a product of the news for us. The harsh reality scared the hell out of us. The attackers were Muslims, so we reacted towards Muslims.

I think Islam lends itself more towards being characterized then Catholicism. I haven't heard or read about too many preachers advocating the destruction of other nations and cultures. I have read and heard a lot about Muslim Clerics advocating the death of Israel and all Jews. Extremists of any stripe are bonkers. But the Muslims seem to have a higher percentage. Are most Muslims bomb wielding terrorists? Of course not. The VAST majority go to nations seeking what every immigrant group seeks....more economic oppurtunity and a better life for their children.

I think another reason that Muslims tend to lend themselves towards easy qualification as extremists is their behavior in other European nations. From an outside American perspective it seems to me that many go to nations like Germany and Denmark for better life style and economic oppurtunity. Many then seek to impose their values on the host nations. Part of why the oppurtunities are better in these nations is BECAUSE of those core values and liberties.

Many seem to expect the host nations to make changes and accomodations for them and their beliefs. While I certainly support toleration and acceptance of other beliefs, my toleration ends when those beliefs are intolerant towards me.

I have never lived in Germany or Denmark. This is just how it seems to me watching and reading American news. I could be completely off base.

In summation, I don't believe that Muslim equates with terrorism. But I do believe that for a variety of reasons (economic, cultural, etc.) the Muslim clergy seems to be very reactionary and conservative when contrasted with western values. It doesn't seem to be that far outside the norm for Muslim Clerics to scream death to infidels. If that were done in a Catholic church, that priest would be defrocked the next day.

In the Muslim faith, it seems like many of their top leadership is promoting intolerance and hatred. Just look at the whack job in Australia. I have not seen a Catholic theocracy deny the holocaust, directly fund terrorisim, and support the kidnapping of foreign nationals. I have seen Iran do this.

There are 500 millions muslims in the world and may be more..
Not all of them terrorists, but most terrorists are muslims in today's world. How can you compare it with I.R.A. which probably had like few thousand members? Besides, if you know that one type of dogs are often bites people, wouldn't you be more careful around that dog than other breeds? I think you would. Same with muslims for the reasons above.

Sigh, very true. I'd say that it's because we yanks are as stupid as you brits but I could only do that if I could buy you a pint or two afterwards in apology and explain that I was kidding. (I am just kidding!!!)

Basically, man generalizes everything: "All Catholics are terrorists", "All moldy food is bad" etc... Many of us learn that these generalizations are just that, and seek to understand the specifics behind the generalization, but sadly, many don't.

No, they did no longer purely fall into that sin. they have been committing that top alongside for 1000's of years. yet once you're observant you will observe the kings they %. at present are increasingly greater depraved and controlling. Sin constantly finally ends up in bondage. the sorrowful area approximately it is that those balloting for those kings think of they are balloting for freedom and progression.

Good points! As an Irish Catholic, I appreciate your analogy.

That said, I feel a bit of extra relief whenever I think of Islamic fundamentalists and Christian fundamentalists whenever I take a piss.

They are falling into the trap because of ignorance plus the fact that many people are simply looking for somebody to hate. You also have to understand that our country is very Christian and they are seen as infidels. Many people here actually believe that Christ is going to come down to earth shortly and take the saved to heaven. The rest of us are going to suffer eternal torture here on earth and shortly afterward in hell. Does that tell you something about the mentality here? Frankly, the Age of Enlightenment hasn't happened here yet.
