Canarsie is named after the Native American Indians who lived in that section of today's Brooklyn, before the Dutch settled there.. It is located in the south eastern section of Brooklyn, bordering the Atlantic on the south. Canarsie was one of the last sections of Brooklyn to be developed. It had many farms into the early 1900's. Today it has grown with many private homes and apartment houses. I believe the shore line of Canarsie is designated as Part of the "Gateway National Park".

Exit 13 on the Belt Parkway. If you go south, you'll be standing in the Carnarise Pier parking lot looking north you'll be facing Pennsylvania Avenue and Starrett City. On the southern border there is Jamaica Bay, on the east you would be only miles from the Queens border. To the west, you would be miles from Sheepshead Bay. To the north, you'll be in Carnasie until to reach East Flatbush. To get to Carnaise, take the L train.
