8 weeks may be still a little early to detect the heartbeat, so at this point I would not be concerned. The fetal heart starts beating 22 days after conception, or about five weeks after the last menstrual period. The heart at this stage is too small to hear, even with amplification, but it can sometimes be seen as a flickering in the chest if an ultrasound is done as early as four weeks after conception. After the 9th or 10th week you might be able to hear the heartbeat. By the 12th week, the heartbeat can usually be heard consistently using a Doppler.

That all depends. There was no heartbeat at 6 wks & 3 days and I had a miscarriage about a month later. The Ultrasound Tech said that if there's no heart beat detected by a vaginal ultrasound by 5-6 weeks, then there's probably not going to be one at all. I would ask my doctor and see what he/she says.

No, I was in my third month before my doctor pick it up. You would be able to see it with an ultrasound but it will be a while before you hear it. If you are concerned go ahead and get a ultrasound set up. You will not be able to see much but you can see his or her beating heart. I same my daughters at 8 weeks and am now pregnant with my son and saw his at 9 weeks. Good luck!!
