Tell them. It is quite dreadful finding out truths about friends and siblings, via an intermediary.
Alternatively, don't populate that field. If memory serves, it isn't mandatory.

On my profile, I but bi-sexual at first, to gove friends who see that part of my profile more time to adjust to the fact that I like guys, at least a little. When they are more prepared, I'll put gay. A good idea for you if you're not 100% confident how hey will all take it

thats how I started to come out, and thats how I met my first boyfriend, all my friends were cool with it when they realized I was gay and were quite shocked that I was that way. I also have 3 brothers that are all okay wiht me being gay and I wish the best of luck with you when you come out to your friends and your bro. I was much happier not hiding anything from people and it was cool to have a boyfriend, though it didn't last too long, I dumped him.

You should tell them first so they dont read it on your page. Thats the last thing they want to find out when they are searching people to come across brother/friend and found out he's gay and I was never told... Tell them first

Saying you're gay on a computer isn't the same thing as doing it in real life. It's a step albeit a small one. If it makes you feel comfortable go for it, but by all means BE CAREFUL who you let into your inner circle. Cyberland has lots of whackjobs out there.

This is coming from someone that is straight so I know that I do not know the pressure that you are under.
But if that is something that you think will spark a discussion then I would go for it. I think that you should just be up front with them and tell them.

Why misrepresent yourself? If you are truthful, you will feel better. There are people who won't accept you or won't like you for that reason, but you don't need those people's approval do you? If you feel better keeping it a secret, then do it. My guess is that a secret like that over time would cause undue stress on you. I think you should be honest and open. If people don't accept you then F@#$! em.

It seems a rather impersonal way to reveal something that is so personal. If you are afraid of sharing this, then it may be the way to go, but it is better to tell them in person.

It is of course your decision and I know how difficult coming out can be, but would you rather people you care about read about it on the internet or hear it from you personally?
