I particularly want to wait for a Playstation 3 to come out, instead of just buying a XBox 360 now...it's meant to be twice as powerful on paper which should make for much much better games than the 360 come 3-4 years into programming for the PS3.

However, a guy in my local game shop said that ALL PS3 games when they come out will be available on the 360. Is this some new legislation or agreement that's been passed?

More importantly, is this the case for the Final Fantasy series?

(I know the old backlogs come out on other consoles, but will the brand new ones like FF12 and 13 etc. come out just on the PS3?)

Total bull. Don't listen to anyone that tells you that all PS3 games will come for the 360. Some series that you know will NEVER, EVER appear on the 360 (unless Sony gets out of the video game business): God of War, Jax and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo. Why? Because those games are made by Sony, ie, they are first party games.

The Final Fantasy series is not appearing on the 360. The only FF game to appear on an MS console is FF XI, and that's because it's a MMORPG. Very slim chance that FFXIII will appear on the 360. It can happen, but very unlikely. Just know that before Square and Enix merged, Sony bought a small portion of Square in order to help Square avoid bankruptcy.

Of cource this is NOT TRUE, and whoever tells you it's true is an XBOX 360 BIG fan who doesn't like the PlayStation 3, it's not possible that ALL the PlayStation 3 games will come out for the XBOX 360, or then what would be the value of buying a PlayStation 3?! so it works that way: some games will be released for both consoles, like the sports games from EA Sports and Need for Speed series from EA Games, these kind of games are so popular so they can't be release exclusively or they will not sell good, or they will be released for every platform to sell better, the problem of the exclusive games lies in the past, in other words, games like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Tekken have been always exclusively released for the PlayStation 1 & 2, and games like Halo and Dead or Alive have had the same exclusivity for the XBOX and XBOX 360, so, neither Sony nor Microsoft will accept giving any of these games to the other side, and the next few years will bring a huge battle between these two sides for the exclusive games, so, if you are a die hard gamer and have the enough money, I suggest you buy both consoles, because the graphically impressive game is not always a good game, and the viceverse

Honestly, you should get the system that most of your friends have so you can play online with them. I wanted to get a PS3, but most of my friends have Xbox 360 systems, so I bought that just so I could play online games with them. With Xbox, you have to pay for Xbox Live Gold, which is the membership you need to play games online; with PS3, the PSN membership is free, so you don't have to pay to play games online. The PS3 has a BluRay player, which doesn't mean much unless you have an HDTV; the Xbox 360 does HD, but it doesn't have BluRay capabilities. Both systems have YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and the ability to play DVDs and music discs. I honestly don't know if the PS3 has Last.FM or Pandora or what its music playback options are (I'm sure there is something, I just don't what it is), but Xbox has Last.FM and Zune Music (and I use Zune so it works out great for me). For me, the Xbox 360 was the best choice, but for others the PS3 might be the better choice; it's really just about your personal preference. I have nothing against the PS3 and am still looking to get one unless Sony makes an announcement for the PS4 sometime in the next year, but my recommendation is to get the console that more of your friends have so you can play online with them. Don't even look at the Wii as a proper gaming console...it can only really do Netflix and does not even allow you to play back music or DVDs.

Based on the history of the FF series, they will probably come out for ps3 first, and then after a certain amount of time, from 6 months to a year, they will be released for 360. There is no current legislation or agreement in place, he was just making a generalization based on his preference for a 360 and that over time, most games come out for multiple systems. Still haven't seen xbox zelda though.

Well, quite honestly, no. It completely depends on the title and the production company. Some entire companies have dedicated themselves to a particular console maker. Plus, games with particular characters (like Mario) are liscensed to only one company (in this case, Nintendo). Games that are generic (like those created by EA) should come out for both systems.

Your local game shop guy is foolish. If even one game came out only for a specific system (like, say Halo 3), his statement would be false. I would say a lot of games will come out for both, but it's definitely nowhere near ALL.

FF, no one really knows what will happen. FF12 did not come out for the PS3, it's for the PS2 (although the PS3 can play it). FF13 is expected to come just to the PS3, but you never know. Obviously since FF11 has come out for 360, Square-enix isn't exclusive with Sony. FFIII was released to the Nintendo DS as well, so SE is looking to make money wherever they can. I'm sure Microsoft is trying to persuade a FFXIII-360 release, but it's unknown (but probably doubtful).

FF13 is also really weird as it will have multiple releases and multiple parts. My recommendation - don't buy either system for FF13...wait until the game comes out - then revisit forums, gaming sites, etc.

It depends on the manufacturer of the game. They can decide to offer their games for which ever system or systems they want. Or they may have a deal in place with Sony or Microsoft to sell their games exclusively for one console.

It may be true with all the 3rd party releases, but with things that are never on any other system that the console company owns, will never be released on another system. eg., Mario. we have yet to see mario on playstation. thats because he is owned by nintendo, just like metroid, zelda, pokemon, animal crossing, etc.
