I am an AVON Independent Sales Representative. Recently, I have been thinking about "party selling" but not sure what makes people want to host a party.

If you are in direct sales, what are your best strategies for group sales?
If you are someone who likes to host selling parties, how do you determine which companies to host in your home?

I've been this route. The people who love to host such parties are the ones who need any excuse they can think of to have a hen party. They have a group of friends who don't get much opportunity to see each other, and they gradually develop the "OK, if she did it that way then presumably I can, too" mentality.

The one very successful group like this that I came to know something about quite a few years ago were mostly housewife-type women who would really not have enough money to play with such toys if they did not buy them from each other, and share in the various discounts and benefits that accrue. It's for the girls who went through high school together and married guys in the same town, and have hung out together forever. And the friends they make at work if they take jobs, and the people they become connected to because they are connecting kinds of people. You know, the ones that are always on the phone?

That's not a technique, but a strategy. And my observations of the one and only time I saw it succeed. I was one of the guests who worked with the hostess, and most of the rest were either high school friends or people who knew the high school friends and were invited to come along. Networking people who do not have professions that take up too much time. People in the neighborhood who had kids in school together. A lot had part-time jobs. The other part was being hostess for some other product.
