I understand that a lot of the contestants don't have singing talent, but do they deserve to be insulted anyway?

I agree, Simon is an asshole and he is the biggest mistake to that show, as he can see, cuz he told them they were garbage, Jennifer Hudson has an oscar nod. I bet he regrets that call...

They use that as an act to pull in ratings. But one thing I don't like is that thaey have around 10,000-15,000 people show up, depending on the city.

They choose to put some of the contestants on there that they know are horrible. Yeah, it's the contestants agreement to go on live tv...but I think it's gone a little far.

Oh yeah...that Bush baby comment was just classless.

I said it before and I will explain it again. They make tons of money and get really high ratings for doing it. In addition, if any of the people who audition are serious about becoming a professional in the industry, they will hear far worse than anything the Idol judges dish out. far far far worse. Those guys (and Paula) are TAME as kittens compared to what really goes on in the music industry. People in that field have to develop tough skins to get through the initial stages of persuing stardom..

The whole show is for entertainment value. Don't be fooled to believe these people think they have talent. It's part of the act. There are many good singers who don't even make it to the final judges. They allow the bad singers in for the entertainment purpose.

They put themselves in for the show. They weren't forced to perform.

I think it is nice that finally there is a show which doesn't take talentless yet good-looking bimbos and turn them into a money-making machine for a few months before they are thrown out without money, talent or sympathy from the general public.

No i don't think they are too harsh. The people that we see on tv sign waiver forms for the producers so that if they wish to air the tryout and anything else with that person in it on tv. If that person was good, then we wouldn't hear the harsh insults.

In some cases, yes. If you can get up on stage and somewhat carry a tune, Simon can be very harsh, but if you get up there knowing you sound God awful, you deserve what you get in my mind. Randy is not a harsh guy, but even he gets agravated with some of the people that try out.

you are so right and i totally agree with you...they r too harsh this season ..insulting ppl on everything...they only have the right to comment on the singing of the contestants and not other things..after all they all are humans right....

Simon has always been like this...so i can understand his stupid idiotic comments...
but whats up with Randy?...hes getting meaner....is he also trying to be popular like Simon..?

Paula is just too nice...i dont she has the heart to insult someone.

no one deserves to be insulted...and u can see the way the cameras just die to capture the rejected candidates to humiliate them more.. and they r given such bad nicknames...how wud u feel they label u as some freak??...

i think they should just stick to commenting on their voices..

i'd say no, because lying to them would do more harm than good in the long run. What if the person is told they are can sing well, but in reality they sound like crap, the reaction from performing in front of a group of people is much worse than criticism from three people, so once again i would say no.

No. Its no different this year than any year...except they show more of the negative replies because it makes people watch. People enjoy watching these big headed " Im he best " people actually get a real opinion of themselves. they know what they are in for when they audition, plus I think some are doing it just to be on TV!
