Hi, I would like to know if San Franciso is a nice place to live...Is it posh, cultured, and what is it known for primarily? Is it expensive to live there? Can you get good jobs there?

Very expensive. Lots of great food. Small enough to get to know the whole city easily. Close to lots of natural beauty. Fog. Summers are not hot. Nice people (some snobs). Jobs- not overly abundant but not impossible either. Great place to have a car. Great place if you don't have a car. Culturally diverse (well what city isn't). Cultured- definitely. Art, wine, food (did I mention food?) All in all a great place to live if you can afford it. I, unfortunately cannot.

EDIT- What Shaun says is kind of right- about people being pretentious and lots of homeless. Still if you can ignore both- or at least help the homeless here and there it should not be a problem for a nice, normal person who does not push her ideas or her dirty hand in other people's faces.

Very expensive ! It will cost you $1,000+ just for a small studio apartment. The city has alot of hills. It has posh areas as well as trashy areas. It's well known for the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Cable Cars, Chinatown, fog, and many other things. Like anywhere else, the job market depends on your skills. No skills, no job...You can make $8 or $9 an hour at a fast food place.

It is posh and cultured, but it's also pretentious and the people are kind of full of themselves b/c they think they're more "informed and aware" than the rest of the country. But it's a beautiful city, very urban and dense, and amazing architecture. Very expensive though and a good job with a good salary isn't going to go that far there. The weather is pretty crappy, especially the closer you are to the coast. There are tons and I mean tons of homeless people. It's is known for it's very liberal and far left politics, even moderate democrats are too conservative for that city. People there say they are open minded, tolerant and value diversity, but that's bullsh*t b/c they scorn anyone who doesnt think like they do. But if you're just looking to have a good time and live somewhere fun and cool, SF isn't that bad. I love the city but I also love to hate it b/c it's so out there.

I think it's pretty laid-back, but busy. Easy place to drive around in. There's the Golden Gate, Palace of Fine Arts, cable cars, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, the Ferry Building, lots of great food. Sourdough! Good shopping, beautiful views, fog, and insane housing prices. For a good job you probably will have to commute somewhere else. Public transportation is pretty good.

I live in the north bay area, but always love a trip to SF.
