Simplifying 3x + 2 = 3(5 + x) Reorder the words: 2 + 3x = 3(5 + x) 2 + 3x = (5 * 3 + x * 3) 2 + 3x = (15 + 3x) upload '-3x' to both area of the equation. 2 + 3x + -3x = 15 + 3x + -3x combine like words: 3x + -3x = 0 2 + 0 = 15 + 3x + -3x 2 = 15 + 3x + -3x combine like words: 3x + -3x = 0 2 = 15 + 0 2 = 15 fixing 2 = 15 couldn't come across a variable to unravel for. This equation is invalid, the left and proper aspects aren't any further equivalent, for this reason there is not any answer.

you need to get the term so that you have all the x's on one side and all the numbers n the other....
3x+5 = x-3 (1st take away x from both sides)
2x+5 = -3 (Then take 5 from both sides)
2x = -8 (Then divide both sides by 2)
x = -4
So x = -4

3x + 5 = x - 3
Subtract 5 from both sides
3x = x - 8
Subtract x from both sides
2x = - 8
Divide both sides by 2
x = - 4

x = -4
3x+5=x-3 (subtract x from both sides)
2x+5=-3 (subtract 5 from both sides)
2x=-8 (divide each side by 2)
x=-4

well first combine like terms so you subtract 5 and move it to the right side and subtract x and move it to the left side
so you have..
2x=-8
then you divide both sides by 2 and you get
x=-4
