Yes, you want to help minorities, and you're not a racist. You'd even date a black man. Good, for you... But, I don't see you travelling to New Orleans to help out. The public schools there are desparate for teachers. Why don't you go, and put your teaching skills to work. Put rubber to road!! Bunch a lieing hipocrates! Comments?

Im guessing you are not seeing any white women traveling to New Orleans to help because you didnt go yourself. Any 'help' or volunteering that ANYONE does is a plus. Not everyone can drop thier lives to go to third world countries to 'give'. We do what we can. We volunteer at schools, charities, etc. And when I say 'we', I mean we as people, not just white women, not just women. Stop generalizing and worrying about what others do or dont do. Get off your own as* and step up.

Surely you realize that you have to have a teacher's certificate to do that...just being white, female, and a "do-gooder" isn't quite enough. They don't want just any "white woman" running over there to teach. And why are you suggesting that only white women help out? Everyone else is exempt? What are YOU doing? Why don't YOU get a teacher's certificate and help out? Maybe you should look up the definition of "hypocrite" (of course, you would need to know how to spell it). Oh, and something that might help you pass those teacher's exams...it's "lying", not "lieing."

I know this may sound really bad but I refuse to give money to anyone who lives somewhere that is known to have problems with mother nature. Obvious New Orleans has had problems with mother nature in the past otherwise they would not have had levees built at all. Just like I won't give anything to someone who looses their home in a tornado if they live somewhere that tornados hit every single year. If someone isn't willing to deal with what mother nature is known to do in the area they choose to live then they shouldn't have moved there. Now if say Hawaii were to get 26 feet of snow then I might consider donating to helping them since that is someplace that probably has never seen a snowflake. People should chose where they lived based on what they are willing to go through when mother nature does what she is known to do in that area. Cali is known for earthquakes, Midwest for Tornado and the south east for hurricans. This is a fact, we have seen it over the years, if you can't deal with it don't move there. Why should I have to pay for them to fix their homes when they chose to live somewhere that has those problems? I pray for the peoples safety but stuff is just that- stuff. The teachers will return along with anyone else who really enjoys living there, in the mean time the land is being rebuilt. Be offended at my opinion if you want to but it is just common sense talking.

I am a white woman married to a black man and do not think your question addressed a real issue in our society . I think your question is our problem. I do not teach but also feel we need to take care of our own towns (we live in ) before reaching out to others. Not everyone can leave their homes ,families, and communities to go help. I truly would go if I chould .

I will pray for teachers to be sent to New Orleans. I have three children and know a good education is very critical to their upbringing.

It's true. There are alot of penny philanthropists out there who'll talk big about "caring for the poor" and their lack of racism or whatever. From my experience, it's usually more of an ego boost than anything else, as if a do-gooder attitude and big talk about charity canned food drives makes them a better person in the eyes of their bougie peers. But when it really comes to a situation where they could do some real good on the ground, it's too often a situation in which they might ruin their manicure or their new shoes.

Boy, you have a lot of anger issues don't you? Not everyone has the opportunity to just up and leave to go to New Orleans18 months later to help. What about all the people who donated BILLIONS of dollars for hurricane relief? Get over it!

Judging from your other questions, you are just looking for something to fuss about - shut up already and go bother your mother!

I'm not a qualified teacher. I did help send supplies to Mississippi though. I also offered to put someone up in my home for a year, but was advised not to do that. I'd still do it anyway if I knew someone who needed help, for any reason.
The bottom line is, there are people willing to help, but we don't always know how.

I did go to New Orleans to help rebuild a church, and extended my stay to help with for the rebuilding of 1 home. What , exactly, is your point, and the purpose of your "question"?

I agree with you that some white liberal women are this way, but not all white women do-gooders are hypocrites. However, I understand how you feel.
