This may sound dorky but check hallmark...they have lots of neat gifts with inspirational quotes and what not on them. I always love those sort of sentimental things. They also have neat angels, now i dont know if you or your freind are religious but i think that maybe a guardian angel might be an appropriate gift, someone was looking out for her when they sent her you as a freind and in a way you have been watching over her too.

I also love precious momnets statues, they have one for almost any occasion and they are cute and collectable. You could also plant something (give her a rose bush or a tree taht can be planted) do it together and that plant can represent her growth and the growth to come.

It depends on a few factors - what kind of budget do you have to work with? Where do you live?

The first thing that came to mind would be to buy tickets for her and her children and you (and your children, if you've got them) to go to an amusement park all together for a special trip to celebrate life and sobriety! Obviously that depends on how close you are to an amusement park and ticket prices.

You could make a gift package of sorts - paid babysitting and a gift package to a day spa or beauty salon - for a massage or facial or something fun like that. This is also something you could do with her.

You could get her a membership to a zoo or something like that that she and her kids could use year-round.

Is her husband supportive of her sobriety? If he's a good guy and they have a good relationship, maybe you'd like to provide them with time for a date night or something? You could babysit the kids, make reservations at a nice restaurant and arrange to pay for dinner.

Blessings to you for being a good, loving friend!
