I'm making a trip from Massachusetts to Arizona for work. I can't stray too far from a reasonable path, but I'm looking for suggested routes, local must-see places (not tourist traps), mom-and-pop restaurants and farmers' markets. Any and all suggestions welcome!!

I love local food and local history. I am interested in beautiful scenery (I'm a photographer.) I'm not into tourist traps, just the stuff a "local" would say I couldn't miss.

I've done the trip by road from Boston to Oklahoma where I live now several times. Take I-90 to Cleveland, then the I-??? to Indianapolis, to I-??? in St. Louis, take I-44 to Tulsa and Oklahoma City, I-40 to Amarillo, TX, to Santa Rosa, New Mexico, on to Flagstaff, Arizona. The views are wonderful once you start to hit St. Louis. You could pick up historical Rt. 66 in Oklahoma City and that come from the east coast thru Oklahoma to California. There are many mom-n-pop restaurants and farmers' markets on that route. The route is boring between Cleveland and St. Louis very flat and very straight, a lot of farmland. Remember that once you come down the Appalachians it is quite flat. I love Pittsfield I used to travel 120 miles to go to the Dakota Restaurant on Rt. 7

must see places - depends on you. A must see place for one person may be boring for another. Like Rock and Roll, go through Cleveland, Ohio. Or perfer country music, then take I-40 through Nashville. Others would rather go between to see the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. What are you interested in?
