my fiance and i are having a baby and she is diabetic. the doctor gave us a new diet for her that say she has to stay under 2000 calories a day to keep her sugars where they are supposed to be. she loves sweets and junk food so this is hard for her. i need some good recipes of things i can make for her but are still in her diet.

She needs to eat lean protein and whole grain carbohydrates. Check out some of Ellie Krieger's recipes on the Food Network. There are a lot of healthy recipes there. Most of us would be healthier and thinner if we ate more like a diabetic person is required to- if you want to know the truth.

In general, your fiancée needs to watch her fruit intake and eat the fruits high in fiber, like apples, pears and strawberries. This is the time to really read labels and evaluate the fiber content of foods. Obviously more fiber the better. This really helps to stabilze blood sugar, curb the appetite and ease constipation, which is bound to happen in pregnancy at some point. One caution though- since she loves sweets, don't let her be tempted to eat sugar-free baked goods and candies. They may not cause her blood sugar to spike but the artificial sweetner is not good for the baby.

I don't know any off the top of my head.... But I know they make diabetic cook books.... I am diabetic and own several.

i would make an appt. with the dietitian at her clinic to pinpoint exactly what and how much she can have of certain things first.
