Is it just me, or is American Idol a celebration of the exploitation of the mentally ill? I think some of the contestants might be seriously crazy.

i agree with you ..its turning into a freak/wacko/crazy ppl show..i mean more than showing the ones that r good in singing...they concentrate on humiliating the weird ones...ok i admit they are a bit weird but..the judges r being too harsh this season....
they think that they have the right to say anything now...sometimes i think wether all those ppl r genuine or not...maybe they have been hired to spice up the show n its ratings??
it could be possible right?..

i think its a shame and does not speak very highly of the judges that they would actually make fun of people who have serious mental and emotional problems and disabilities and I think that there IS a pre screening process that actually encourages these people to participate when it should really be a kinder process that would eliminate these people there is NO ENTERTAINMENT VALUE IN LAUGHING AT PEOPLE WHO ARE ILL. Why don't they put on midgets and stuff. because they would be sued to the hilt, sick people have NO advocates, I really am sickened by AI this year it is more cruel than ever and Simon Cowell is a bigger stinkweed than I have ever seen I would love to kick his stank a s s he is NOT better than anyone as a matter of fact HE must have some low self esteem in h8mself somewhere that gets off on making people feel inept because he KNOWS how it feels he doesnot fool me, also that piece of human waste and incomplete abortion has infected Randy and Paula and I think HE (simon) should be eliminated and keep Randy and Paula two peope with REAL credentials in the entertainment field and just have a special ceebrity guest or even a producer or someone involved professionally with talent, I mean who IS Simon Crowell a nobody that came out of nowhere whats his background what has he created except showing america his a s s h o l e

I don't think the show is exploiting the mentally ill. Most of the weirdos you see on American Idol are purposely making themselves look as ridiculous as possible. They're just doing whatever they can to get on TV. If it means acting like a self-delusional idiot, then so be it. At least they got to be on the show.

It isn't exploitation... these people WANT to go on the show and get ridiculed, why else would they wait out in the rain for three days?

As for the people being crazy, yeah, there's quite a bit of crazy in America.

I hope it is that they are sensationalizing the situation and those we are seeing are the minority. It is getting where we do not know what to think of this program. It has become both sad and scary. We even saw discrimination in its worst form last night. A young man with a very good voice was ousted because he wasn't a women? If that was reversed they would of said a women was sexy with a low voice and moved her up.

They all have to sign a waiver saying that they agree to have anything that is filmed with them in it shown on TV if the producers decide to. Where are the families and friends of these people that are allowing them to be allowed to be made fun of? It's all for ratings anyway. I've had enough and will wait till the real competition begins.

I definitely agree! It's like a freak show. I cant stop watching it. I loved last night when the one contestant went into a melodramatic rant about how much she deserve to go to hollywood. I dont remeber her name but I guess she was already on twice before.

Its funny, my girlfriend and I like to watch and try to diagnose what is wrong with some of them.

I think that just about any reality show exploits the mental people.

I agree...i cannot even watch sometimes i wonder who brainwashed these "American Idiots" into believing that they could actually sing..much less had any talent..

I live in Canada and we have the same "Canadian Idiots" here...so this brainwashing is cross border...we may need to call in the CID it may be an infectious disease...lol

They're not all mentally ill .. just seriously full of themselves. You are right though, to make fun of the obviously ill people is not nice. Case in point.. the guy that Simon called a bush baby and his friend.
