I can only talk from my own experience in my local town, but it seems that kids are getting involved in such behaviour way too young to really understand what they are doing. Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

How about real parenting? That is where it starts. I see alot of kids these days let loose with no parental supervision whatsoever. Mom and Dad are both too busy with their own careers and interests to fool with the kids, and kids being kids, they are going to get into all the trouble they are allowed to get into.

Build a community center. Have the parents take an active roll by being there. Be a coach for their sports team, or an assistant coach. Be a Brownie leader, a Girl Scout leader, or a Boy Scout leader. Participate in their school activities, such as working at a bake sale. Most of all- just BE THERE FOR THEM. They'll be very proud of you, and will model your behavior in the future.

MOre parental involvement in their lives!

I can only speak from my own experience, I starting smoking pot because there was no one around adn the things I wanted to do that would have kept me from smoking my parents did not allow me to do it.

Let the kids play sports, let them get involved in clubs at school.
Help them to do the things THEY want to do.
Listen to them.
Pay attention.

Get rid of poverty...dont have reform schools there to make these kids get involved in gangs. No hugs, no emotional background, its do or die, kill or be killed...and they get swayed. Our kids who have a roof over their heads do not know how lucky they are. To these kids money makes the world go around, it brings cars, women, and happiness...makes them untouchable...education never is an option anymore. Its truly sad.

PARENTS.
It's very important to talk to your kids.
Tell them why they souldn't get involved in things like that.
Keep an eye on who they hang out with.
Just basically, be a parent.
