Generally speaking using distilled water in an aquarium is not a good idea at all. While distilled water does not contain unwanted minerals and salts, it also does not contain the wanted and needed minerals and salts. One example, due to a total lack of carbonate hardness, distilled water makes it very difficult to regulate the pH in the tank and it can change so rapidly that it's harmful to the fish. Live plants will quickly die in distilled wtaer as well. Distilled water is damaging to snail shells ... the list could go on for days and days. Distilled water can be used to mix with tap water to lower the amount of disolved minerals, but unless you have quite delicate fish, it's not really a good move. For general fish keeping, stick with your tap water. That makes water changes easier and makes bringing new fish into the tank much easier as well.

I don't think it'sa good idea. The distilled water may be too clean, with minerals and other invisible things that the fish needs not there. Let tap water sit out for a couple of days so the chlorine evaporates. The tap comes from the ground, i.e., nature.

Sure, it has none of the minerals in it that fish need but if you want to either not give the fish what they need or buy the minerals and add them yourself then don't do it. Some people mix it with tap water if they have very hard water though.

distilled water has all its minerals and salts removed. if you want to use bottled water use spring water which has a slightly high ph -- not for low ph fish!
