Yes it is true that some companies cheat their affiliates by underreporting the sales received through them. However, it is also true that many affiliates cheat the company by inflating their sales record (e.g ask friends to buy the products, affiliate commission to be given to the affiliate, then the friends do a chargeback reversing the order)

The key is to participate only in affiliate programs run by reputable companies. Amazon.com has a good affiliate program. Commission Junction's advertisers are typically the big advertisers so they have the tools to provide a more accurate reports.

However, I would be wary with the affiliate programs in Clickbank as majority of them are small businesses with little or no sophisticated tracking system (e.g. cookies that would allow the credit of sales 10 days after clicking and ordering through the affiliate link as some people don't buy immediately but will take days to decide).

While your statement "corporations will go to extreme measures to save millions of dollars in commission expenses", they also realize the value of sales that their affiliates generate and will therefore work to ensure that they maintain the trust and confidence of their affiliate members to keep selling for them.

Before you join any affiliate programs, read their terms and conditions and how the program works carefully

Companies that cheat their affiliates usually don't last very long. Check with your upline.

most of the affliate programs track it for you, like google adsense or bidvertiser. and most affliates require you to have a website before you sign up.
