I have reformatted my hard drive and now I need to get drivers. The problem is I dont know what driver I need for my ethernet controller. I cant connect to the internet to get one of those "driver detectors" until I get an ethernet connection. I have an IBM T40 if that helps. The IBM website does not have ethernet controllers. I only need a generic one that is compatable with my hardware so I can get connected in order to get the right one. Sadly, I can't just look inside to figure it out since its a laptop.

Thanks!

It is EXTREMELY likely it is a 3COM, but you need specific rivers for it. Can you see, anyway at all, what is there ?
The Cards will specify on it, or if you go to Network Connections, check properties, or Device Manager and check properties

Get your specific model number (probably on the back) and get on another computer with an internet connection and go to:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?brandind=10&familyind=117057&operatingsystemind=49979&template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&validate=true

You should be able to find all the drivers you need there. Sometimes the ethernet drivers are packaged in with other motherboard chipset drivers.

Did you bypass to gateway web page and notice in the event that they have motive force for the wifi card for XP? If gateway web page does not have XP motive force for the wifi card, then you extremely won't be able to apply the wifi card. in the event that they do, basically obtain it and deploy it.
