I work in Texas and we recently got a new CEO for the last few years since the CFO left I have assumed these duties. I was laid off last year for requesting a raise then hired back with the promise of my office, salary etc. My offiec developed a maintenance issue and I had to temporarily move. During the time it was getting fixed, un known to me it was given to an employee transferring down from the owners law firm. I then moved to the receptionist area as there was room for me.
The new CEO having only spent about an hour with me told me he felt I was not qualified to be a CFO I said I didnt want to be. Said he would never ask me to provide financial statments, budgets etc as I wasnt qualified. Yet in the next week I was asked to do just that. I have been demoted via my title, and moved into a cubicle that was designed for outside employees to have a place for their laptops with no storage etc. ( I am the finance dept). Hooks on the cube wall for coats i cant hang mine otherscan

I never said I couldnt do the job of the CFO I have been doing the job for over 3 years, and our CPA firm thinks I do a great job, just the new CEO without even spending 30 minutes with me never reviewing my resume, assumed. I feel if others in the office are allowed to hang up coats on the cubes why cant I. Singled out yes. I am a good employee, employee of the month for 3 years and employee of the year for the last 2 years. I am just totally baffled. And get a new job well I am looking as a single parent I am just taking a breath, choosing to continue to do my job with a smile and perform what extra duties they give me.

Also they have no immediate plans to hire a CFO why when I am still doing all the task held in that title. A raise would be nice but I really just would like to be treated with a little respect. I dont necessarily like everyone I work with but I am polite and respectful to all.

!!! Also the Question is AM I being discriminated against. I have no clue reason for the question. Also a law suit is not on my mind at all. I am just puzzled as in all my professional life I have never been presented with this situation.

Sounds like they aren't too fond of you. Discrimination? Doesn't sound like it as you added nothing that would be discriminatory. No facts about race or sex.
You know, maybe you just need to be honest with yourself. If you can't do the job, you can't do the job and it's not fair to expect them to put someone in a position that person can't handle.

It sounds like you are doing a CFO's job and there not paying you CFO salary...Doing a job and not getting payed for it ,can be a form of discrimination...Please talk to a good lawyer..Keep good detailed records of your job duty's,before and after with dates and times...

Exactly how are you being discriminated against? Its quite probably the new CEO just doesn't like you (no offense) or isn't completely sure about HIS job. You have given no evidence to say that you have been directly discriminated against. As for your job duties... your duties are whatever they tell you they are since they are your employer and can fire you (and you can quit) at any time.

Well I'm disabled and lawyers have found judges that make rulings that cut holes in the laws that protect every ones rights. the clause to accommodate people with disabilities has been gutted and the employers can argue it would cost too much and only benefit a very few employees ,when the accommodations would help everyone..

No. It just sounds like you were not qualified to do the job and they had to demote you so they could get someone else to fill the shoes. If you were qualified they would have kept you in that position.

No, just being paid a lot less for doing the CFO's job. Time to find a new job.

You definitely got F* but I am not sure you were discriminated against. I would consider telling them to stick and find new employment with a company that will appreciate you.

I would recommend that you look for a new job.

And arrange for your last day to be the day before the financials are due - and tell them you are leaving on your last day.

My only question is - why would you continue working there? Yes, they certainly haven't treated you with respect, but it isn't discrimination.
