Disney is currently offering a few great packages for their Value Resorts - The All Star and Pop Century. A family of 4 can stay and play for 6 days and 7 nights for less than $1600. The value resorts are offering nightly stays for $82 a night right now.
Otherwise, you'll want to book with a travel agent, if not through Disney directly.
You can save money on tickets by purchasing them at these legitimate discounted locations:
AAA (membership required)
your local Disney Store
Costco (membership required)
Sam's Club (membership required)

You might want to check with the DisneyWorld website itself, too. Sometimes they have some inexpensive package deals - especially in off-peak times - involving what they call their "Value" resorts, places like the Pop-Century Hotel.
In an aside - since you're looking to save money, here's one of my best tips. Disney allows you to bring food and drinks into the parks. You do have to go through a bag search, but they aren't looking for edible items. While you might not want to bring an entire meal with you - (We do it all the time.) - you should still consider having some snacks and water bottles. On site, you'll pay $2 for a single bottle of water and snack time for all four of you could be $20 or more.
Also - don't know how old the grandkids are, but 10 and up is considered an "adult" and you'll have to pay more for tickets and meals because of it.

After a few trips we have found that our best experiences have come from renting a house and a car. This arrangement saves tons of time and money plus people get a better night's sleep when they aren't sharing a hotle room. With a rental house you are allowed to cook your own meals and Disney parks allow you to bring in outside food so you can pack your lunch. For four people this will save you over $100 a day. Get hopper passes to the parks so you can come and go as you please. You can also rent a house with a pool so the kids can play at night when they get back. Other than traffic driving is pretty easy, the area is designed for tourists and well marked. Have fun!

hi Paula, this is the first time we've booked for Orlando but I'll tell you what we've done and maybe it will be worth it to you. we're from UK 2 adults 2 children. we paid £720 for a villa then we booked fly drive with air tours for £1500. we booked over the internet with orlando ticket deals, universal 2 day 3 park pass with child under 9 free cost £177 total. Disney will cost us £576 for 7 day pass for the 4 parks and water parks. if i've added up correctly total cost is £2973. hope this helps, sue
