Lol made me think there!

£25 is the actual cost for the thing.
£25/3 = £8.33 each.
The haggling guy gave back a £1 each so the total is £28 or £9.33 each.
The £2 is what he put in his own pocket which makes up for the remaining £0.66 from the tenner.

You mentioned that each lad 'paid' £9 - it's actually £9.33 (what they paid was £8.33 but got the £1 back).
3 x £9.33 is £28

The lads came up with £10 each and each got £1 back; so they 'paid', as you say, £9 each.

Of this 3x£9=£27, £25 went to the tv seller and £2 went to the friend.

3x9=27=25+2
There is no missing £.

To get to the original £30, just add the 3x£1 the lads got back from what they paid for the TV, including the friend's 'commission':
30=27+1+1+1.

They paid £30, of which £3 came back, £25 went to the TV shop and £2 went to the friend. The £2 he pocketed comes out of the £27 the lads paid, it's not extra money.

Put simply, the two pound taken by the friend is included in the twenty seven pounds. Cost 25£ +£3 repaid+2£still owed =£30.

The lad who bought the tv had to have given himself the pound back as well as keeping the two pounds. He ended up having £3 while the other two lads had only one pound each.
