one day a little boy named Fred went walking to the uni-mart 10 blocks from his house. The route he took was unknown and he didnt realize he had to pass a drug dealers house, two loose doberman pinchers, a brothel, 2 homeless guys and herion addict. He was shot in the foot when passing the drug dealers house, he was bit in this calf by the dogs, the homeless guys didnt do anything to him on his way there, the herion adict stole his left shoe. On the way back with bread and eggs, the homeless men begged him unmerrifully and took his remaining change, and stole a piece of bread. The herion addict took a couple eggs, emptied the shell and used the inside of the egg to heat up his junk. Little Fred has a bad experience without any planning. After knowing what could occur, the next day, Fred had to go get some chips and dip for his football party, he decided to go a different route where he would pass nice, little Ms. Johnson would passed out cookies to the neighbors, Little kids selling lemonade on the corner and friendly Frank Wilson who was always willing to help a friend in need. Fred was limping from the the gunshot wound so frank offered to give him a ride to the store and back. they picked up some free cookies and spent the remaining change on the lemonade. Fred had the best football party ever. And never took the first route to the store again!

The whole point of research is to maintain control over your variables so that only the dependent variable is changed. If you do not plan your research, you cannot be certain you will be able to control your variables and thus you would compromise the validity of your experiment. If your experiment is compromised your results will be worthless and the whole thing would be a waste of time. Remember the 5 P's!
