Theoretically yes, but then again there are a lot of songs out there that have no lyrics at all. Such as classical music, songs from ballets like The Nutcracker. Personally I don't even listen to a lot of lyrics anymore when I listen to songs, because I just like the beat and if the tune allows me to continue to do my work, or dance to it, it's a good song to me..it could be about chickens eating dogs for all I care but if it sounds nice...sure...but lyrics do make up a large part of the art form. Lyrics aren't a necessity to a good song, but it helps contribute a lot.

I love to listen to songs from foreign countries like India, Poland, Greece, Canada, Thailand, etc., and I can't understand a thing! But the music can be very good, most of the time. Sometimes the song very annoying and drives me crazy. Once I was listening to a Slovachian song that I hated so much that I shaved off all of my hair! But then there was a song that was playing once when I was at a Korean restaurant that I LOVED! I kept going back to that restaurant just to hear that song again, but never did. The owners finally kicked me out because I refused to order any food. I would just sit there for hours waiting for that song to come back on. I still try to sneek back in under a disguise, but somehow they know it's me.

no, some what is called good songs have awful lyrics. Even some of the best music artists produce terrible lyrics.

Example: Paul McCartney (Wings) Band On The Run.
Sounds a good song but listen to the lyrics and you'll know.

No, the actual playing of the music behind the lyrics can make the song just as good

No. One of the biggest party songs of all times is "Louie, Louie", and it is known as a song you can't figure out all the words to.

Also, the Rolling Stones, their songs usually do have great lyrics, but you can't understand half of what Mick Jagger is saying so you have to look them up. I think people don't look up the lyrics and then say, "OK, I like the song now".

Maybe songs with great lyrics are more part of your memories for good or romantic times but I don't think songs have to have good lyrics to be a good song.

Here's what I think: Not only does a song need to have good lyrics, it also needs a good sound/tune in order to be a good song.

No, there are some GREAT songs without any lyrics. Look at classical and Jazz. Also, some of the greatest rock songs don't even have lyrics.

actuallly no it doesnt some ppl listen to the music because they like the instrumental part mainly not really the lyrics. also theirs trance, house, techno, electronica, and Rave .... some of this type of music have lyrics some of it does not... because some of it comes form the Dj wolrd... ask a Dj about his or her opinion they spend most of their time twisting tables.... point being some is just intrumental and ppl listen to it. Even then when some of all music have lyrics some ppl like it mainly because of the intrumental part... it doesn't have to have good lyrics...some of the intrumental songs rOCk

Not really, sometimes I like songs just because of the music portion, not the singing/lyrics.
