February is normally the snowiest month of the winter season in New England. I think we will, but it will happen when we go into a pattern change from what we are in now. Currently we are in a dry, cold pattern with the weather getting even colder for a couple of days. Once there is an influx of warmer, moist air from the south that meets this current air mass, a coastal storm could develop and dump heavy snow on Southern New England. Another scenario to look for is the current cold air mass extends a few hundred miles east of the Atlantic Seaboard over the Atlantic Ocean. Once this air mass begins to recede and the leading edge is over the Gulf Stream a major storm is likely to develop. If the air flow is favorable for it to hit Southern New England, it will.
