i was molested when i was younger for a long period of time, and now i am a lesbian and i know lots of people that have been victims of sexual abuse and they are now, or have been in same sex relationships. why is that?

i am not saying that if you are gay/lesbian, then you must have been molested. i am asking do you think that one reason why SOME people who were molested are gay/lesbian

I think if you were molested by a man, women may think that it will bring back memories. . .Its like if you touch an iron and it burns you once, you dont try to touch it again...

i actually dated a woman for years who had been molested by a man (a family member no less) when she was younger. there were definitely times when she wondered (as did i) if her being gay was due partially to the fact that her experience with men at such a young age had been so tramatic.

all in all, i think it does have an effect on who the person who was molested chooses to be intimate with, but i dont think that makes them any less gay or lesbian. (if that makes sense.)

like someone said, if you touch an iron and it burns you don't do it again. that's a great metaphor, and very true most times. granted their are a number of people who date and marry the same sex they were molested by, but i can see why people don't.

you are who you are in the present and although the past has contributed to shaping that, it's certainly not everything. be happy with who you are, however you became that person!!!

No. This is a stereotype. Now many women and men who were molested as children may grow up and decide that they are gay/lesbian....but the majority of the gay community have indeed NEVER been molested. Im 23 yrs old and have made it my entire life without being molested/.raped/beaten, etc. And im 100% lesbian.

No connection that I know of. Kids get molested far more often than ever reported (it's less of a social concern outside the US) and nearly all grow up to have happy, healthy sex lives, mostly straight, apparently. Ultimately, they're attracted to whoever they would be attracted to in any event. Usually, a very bad childhood experience turns them off to sex altogether rather than turning them on to the opposite sex of the abuser.

No, people are born LGBT (or not).
Some people who are born LGBT also get molested or are victims of sexual abuse. There is not a causal link here, just a correlation.

No. I don't believe that being molested has anything to do with your orientation later in life. It might have something to do with trust issues though.

Well I wasn't even " half-molested" and turned out bi. So I think the cause runs deeper.
