At least blacks have a history month.
I would really like a white history month.
And an asian history month.
And a mexican history month.
And a native american history month.
And a eskimo history month.
Seems blacks have it pretty good.

Definitey way more is made out of it than should be. If you're really interested you should research why Feb. was chosen. My guess is that it's very close to MLK day and that if January was used "New Years" would overshadow Black History month. The other thing to realize is that almost every month and day has something associated with it "Garlic Month", "Pie Day" etc.

Yes, I think it's a coincidence that it is the shortest month of the year. It happens to be a time when kids are in school, so they can focus on black history and people are shut in by the weather, so they have more time to devote to things like that, so it seems a pretty good fit.

I think having a "Black History Month", whether it is the shortest or longest month is ridiculous. How about we teach history and take the segregating labels (ie Black History Month) out of our thought process. If we continuously label everything as black this or black that then how do we ever expect a society to treat everyone the same when they are taught to look for the differences.

I think that all the time..but who knows why, it is sad though. I'm just tired of everyone crying about it not being a white history month. I personally believe there should be a history month for all minorities since we don't get to learn our history in school.
I think they need to stoping the crying because any history book you open in any history class from kindergarten to senior year, its all "white". And I believe that the histories of other minorties should be included in these classes. But until that happens (and I doubt it ever will) we have black history month!
The sad part is that we only have a month to nationally recognize our history, while they have their whole education career, and on top of that white history is forced down our throats in school but during black history month many times its only optional for them to learn about us.

I think it's just coincidence. It being the shortest month is more of a punchline than a problem. As my black co-worker says "hey, it's a month". But I another friend that says blacks get a month, and whites get the rest of the year.

If it was during July people would complain that it was made during the summer on purpose to keep kids from learning about it. If it was in nov. or dec. people would say it was made to be then so that the holidays would draw attention away from it. If you are self-conscious enough to evaluate every little thing in the world, then I guess you can imagine things that aren't there. Blacks have a long history of paranoia and conspiracy theories. Time to grow up and get over that

February was not picked as Black History month because it was the shortest month of the year. That would be anti-black. Anyway, how come there is no white history month, or yellow history month(for us Asians)?

It is clearly racial discrimination!
In fact anything you don't like from toe jam cream to the Sears Tower is racial discrimination. Some examples are:
The "F" you got in science in the 6th grade
The penalty you got in the loss to Washington HS
The flat tire you got in the blizzard of 1995
Getting hit by bird droppings
The Boogie Man
Drug busts at 1 AM
A girl not wanting to talk to you
The Sound of Music (movie)
High funeral expenses
Unmarked police cars
Your program not compiling
Someone beating you to a good parking place
Someone shooting you the bird in traffic
7-11 telling you that your lottery ticket isn't a winner
7-11 not letting you return losing lottery tickets
The vending machine not having what you want
.........and so forth, etc, etc, etc.

I agree with Bill Cosby and Morgan Freeman (and South Park) - Black history is human history, and shouldn't be segregated but fully integrated in everyday teaching and knowledge of the subject.

Of course I do! Otherwise, why wouldn't they change Black History Month to January? It would be most appropriate considering Dr. King's birthday is that month!
