is it ok to go the the OBGYN when you are having your period? I started yesterday and my appointment (for my yearly exam) is tomorrow. Should I reschedule, or is this normal for the dr.?

Call your doctor's office and see what they think. I would probably reschedule in this situation, but I know how difficult it can be to get an appointment, so just call them and see what they want you to do.

Most doctors won't do an exam while you are on your period. You will have to reschedule. Be sure to count up your days so it isn't scheduled at the time of your period again.

most obgyns are ok with this and it will not mess up anything dealing with the exam. some may prefer not to do the exam during your period just for personal preference. i would suggest calling your doctor's office and asking just to make sure. or if you are uncomfortable, then reschedule regardless.

either way, it's not "bad" to see your obgyn during your period.

Well, if they are doing a pap and where they scrap the cervix you shoudl probably reschedule because it needs to be clear or the lab won't do it.

I went to the dr and i had just been spotting and there was still tat old dried bloodup there and she had to "clean it out" first before she could send it.

I mean especially if it is bad.
You don't want to be laying on the table with nothing to catch the flow.
And i am sure the dr doesn't want to get covered in blood either.

Just reschedule

Your doctor won't be able to do the visual portion of you pelvic exam. Call the office and explain, and they'll let you know if you should reschedule.

You should reschedule. They usually won't see you unless it's at the end of your cycle and very light. I'd call them up and ask just to make sure.

You need to call them, if your flowing heavily then yes they may want to reschedule due to the blood flow getting in the way of obtaining an accurate swab. It's normal and no need to be embraced, just call them. Mine wanted to see me even if I was on my period but every doctor is different.

They usually can't do the pap smear so its better to reschedule the appointment or you will have to go back at another time for the pap smear.

Reschedule hon. The doctor cannot do the necessary testing if you are bleeding.

If you heavy its a nono so you might want to reschedule. Other then that if its light then its no biggie. Just make sure you let her/him know.

Personally I think you would rather be comfortable to go when it is over OVER. ;)
