According to your desciption, there may have some regsitry errors or spyware in you PC to cause "runtime error".You need to clean you PC.
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer you create junk in the registry. You need to scan and clean your PC with registry cleaner.
There are some comparison and review of registry cleaners, free.

if you could have accessed your c:\ drive before you copied back your data, then you've probably got some virus. The best is to take your portable drive to somebody with proper virus protection software, that's been updated and then clean your backups of any threads, you'll have to reformat your c:\ drive as well, else it will only re spawn somewhere else

could be, yes...or just another windows error and incompatibility

just for you to know...GET AN ANTI VIRUS !!! its not that dificult...

there quite a few... AVAST/ NOD / KASPERSKY or if you have more money just buy NORTON or McAfee,,,,

and then scan your files for viruses...

OBS.: the virus will not 'flow' back...it will be copied back in a probably inactive state and will infect your computer only when you open the infected file...
