I never thought about it. It would make sense that because a prisoner technically has certain rights even in prison, they would be allowed the right to vote. Especially because even though they are in prison, there could be certain issues that would affect them that they feel they would like a say in. However, some people may feel that a prisoner still has certain rights, but maybe they think because they are in prison their rights should be restricted. Technically, they are citizens just like anyone else. It's all a matter of opinion. I personally don't have an opinion on that issue, but it's interesting to think about.

All convicted felons should lose the right to vote until they have completed their jail time and probation. This includes "white collar felons" as well as murderers, rapists, armed robbers, and the like. The reason for this is that obviously their votes will oppose the law enforcement and judicial processes that put them behind bars. The first thing they would obviously do is vote to remove the judges that decided their cases.

Unfortunately, the Democrat party, the ACLU and other liberal groups have historically and passionately opposed this position, because they know that nearly all convicted felons cast a liberal vote. The result is that convicted felons are presently permitted to vote while in jail, everywhere in the USA.

That means that a serial killer or rapist can counter your vote.

Prisoners already have the right to vote under the European Human Rights Charter. Prisoners in Scotland are threatening court action if they're denied their vote in the upcoming Scottish Parliamentary elections in May 07. They will take their case right up to the Court of Human Rights in Brussels and will win hands down and get big compensation. No one, not even the Scottish Parliament is above the law.

No they should not beable to vote. I already think that they get enough special treatment. If you think about it most of the inmates in jail get more special treatment then most people. If you look at the working class America they they are struggling and starving more then most loser inmate, these inmates don't have to work for a damn meal or to have a roof over there head infact they have everything taken care of for them.

Yes, I think they should. What is annoying me at the moment is that other EU citizens who are working in Scotland can vote in our Scottish and Local Govt elections. Apparently something to do with Human rights....what a load of tosh. We have lost the plot in this country. This is just in Scotland at the moment cuase we have a new parliament but look out the rest of Britain.....it's gonna get you all too - sooner or later.

Prisoners are in jail for a reason. They have broken the laws of the land. They dont deserve to do the same things that we as law abiding citizens have.

The idea of prison is a removal of rights due to the crime they have committed, so no, they should not be involved in the democratic process as they removed themselves from this process by committing a crime

The vast majority of prisoners had no consideration for society prior to their imprisonment and would not be interested in voting whilst in prison, there are however prisoners who rightly feel that they should be able to contribute to decision making and be allowed the vote whilst serving their sentence.
I have no problems with prisoners voting and see no reason why they should'nt be able to take the blame for poor quality governments along with the rest of us.

No!!!

If they are in prison for murder, does the person they murdered get a chance to vote.

They have too many rights as it is. They get 3 meals a day. They get health care. They don't have to pay rent. If you have any elderly neighbors, visit with them and ask them if they get free health care!!!

When they are committed to prison, they should lose the right to vote as part of their punishment.
