Ostriches are from Africa, emus from Australia.
Ostriches are somewhat larger have bare legs and
black and white feathers and small but obvious
wings. Emus have hairlike brown feathers, very
inconspicuous wings and shorter necks. They
also have a very odd sort of dreamy facial
expression.

Genetically speaking an emu and an ostrich are as different as say, a parrot and an eagle. Ostriches belong to the family of Struthionidae, while Emus belong to Casuariidae and are closer relatives to another large flightless bird called the cassowary. Ostriches live in africa while emus live in australia. Appearance-wise the ostrich is much taller and has a long bald neck and head, while to emu has a black furry head. Also the emu is more brownish in color while ostriches are black and white.

Ther are four large flightless birds. Ostriches are the largest and live in Africa. Rheas are in South America, Emus are in Australia while Cassowaries are in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Emus are the second largest of the four with ostriches being the largest. The four are different families as were the moas and elephant birds.

Interestingly "emu" is from the Portuguese word "emeu" which means "ostrich".
