Do you think Intel is trying to confuse the public?? lol

I do.... Celeron D is the stripped version.. Pentium D seems to have 2 CPUs, so then why did Intel bring out Core 2 DUO?

Did more research and found that the Pentium D's are the old champs and Core 2 Duo are the New kids in town, they run cooler and do more at lower clock speeds than any Pentium D. Thanks!

Uh... no dude. The Pentium D is a dual core, essentially two Pentium 4s. The Pentium D will outperform the P4 in applications designed to utilize two cores. But, it will run about equal to the P4 in all other apps, though a significant improvement would be due to the advancement of the other system components that the dual core is running on compared to that compatible with the socket of a P4.

Only the Smithfield base of Pentium Ds had two Prescott cores, the later versions do not.

*IRT Additional Details

Core2 Duos ARE the latest, and anything from the E6600 and up should outperform any other commercially available processor on the market for the time being. But, the quad cores should be released some time soon. And, from what I can tell, they will not be compatible with the same Intel socket type as the core2 duo.

AMD, on the other hand, will be releasing quad cores around the same time frame, and those processors are backwards-compatible with socket AM2 motherboards.

Pentium Ds are actually 2 Pentium 4 Prescotts on a single chip.

This is why they offer better performance that a single P4 processor.

Pentium 4. The D version has a smaller Cache, as it's the discounted version.
