i think footballers are paid way too much money , come on between £50,000 and £120,000 a week its ridiculous .
it seems to me that alot of these players just play for contracts and once they get the contract they dont try anymore .
i think they should be on a pay when you play contract , lets say £5000 a week but if you play then you get an extra £50,000 that would make them try their hardest every week because they would'nt want to be left out of the team .
no player can justify their wages .

may be a bit jealous but when you hear about them leaving one to go to another because they'll get £5000 a week more , as if thats gonna make a difference to them . what about the fans who sit there week in week out and watch them put in miserable performances .

I think if they didn't get paid as much maybe they could reduce the cost of tickets.
I dont really know much about football and never go to see it but when I was little everyone went on a saturday to watch the match took their kids etc.
I dont understand how you could possibly affoard that now, My husband supports Newcastle and I phoned up to get some tickets for him for a match £65!!! for the both of us thats outragous,
how can a bloke affoard to take his son to the footy every satdy at that price, Butlins is cheaper, its the kids that miss out.
The players dont need that much money and they certainly dont need to charge those extorshonate prices for the tickets (dont even get me started on the price of shirts)!!

English soccer needs to put a cap on the spending each team is allowed. This will bring parity to the league because as is there are only about 4 teams at the beginning of everyyear that can even claim they have a shot at winning the league.

Take for instance the NFL. Every NFL season there are atleast 16 teams(out of 32) that legitimatly have a shot at the playoffs and winning the Super Bowl. This only makes the league better because everything is so unpredicatble and even if the team you pull for stinks, in two years(many times less) this probably will not be the case.

The EPL and all of European football is pretty much like this: You have the same 3 or 4 teams that are good every single year no matter what. They will always be good, and the others will always have inferior talent, unless a lower budget teams catches lighting in a bottle one season and one of the big 3 or 4 is having a down year. This leads to no surprise storylines, and about 80% of the fan bases only caring about the good teams of a particular league.

The EPL should cap off their spendings. This keeps things fair for the fans and other teams that may not have the money of a team like Man U or Chelsea.

This is a despicable act, but is not down to how much he earns, simply that he is a thief and would be a thief if he earned a million pounds a year! And not all footballers earn big money, even within the football league. While premiership and championship players get more than enough money, some league 2 players would probably be just as well off if they worked in a factory.

It's true! These people do not deserve their money and to prove this just look at the performances of our national side - what have they won recently? I'll tell you - absolutely nothing. When they come up against worthy opposition they capitulate. They have no guts, they don't need any, they get their wages whatever the outcome.
I often wonder what some of these prima-donna's would be doing if they wern't poncing about on football fields, it appears the majority of them arn't mentally capable of doing a 'proper' job like sweeping the roads.
Another fact about all this is that you can't really blame these footballers for this situation. The blame for these levels of payments lies with the clubs and the fans who agree to it all and who pay to go in and watch.
A couple of years ago this only applied to football but the same senario is creeping into cricket. This is backed up by recent results also.

I agree its ridiculous but come on as if anyone is going to turn down that sort of money, i wouldn't and i doubt anyone on here would. If i was a footballer I'd be thinking money and getting as much as I could, how long do footballers last in top flight 19 - 32 may be longer if there good.
I'm not saying they deserve it or that they should be paid that much but you've got to think if someone was giving you £50000+ would you complain?

a few players actually work for their wages, ill use an example.

Jermain Defoe, before Mido and Berbatov came he and keane were the regular starters, at the time he wasnt netting too many goals but he was getting the start.

When Mido came he started seeing less and less playing, eventually losing his starting position for about half the season.

Now he is working hard, scoring goals and playing alot better, now that hes back in the first team

but yes most players are jsut lazy..

yes i agree but you have to take into consideration how many games they play, thats a long season and some players hide injuries for months just so they can play but it might not be thier best performance in those months and might seem like thier slacking. premier league generates millions and some clubs are backed by millionairs so u cant blaim the players for clubs willing to pay those amounts.

It's the most popular sport in America. Those players are not people who don't play hard. They had to, to get noticed and those type of people generally still play for the fun as hard as they have not for the money, but because that's the one thing they love to do. They earn their money by having more people watch them play, than any other show in TV. Think of them as CEO's, that's pretty much who they are. Yes I think they make a little much, but through economics they are obviously also earning it. They also develope worse injuries than any other sport, by the time they retire, most of them will never be able to use their bodies right. There is no money in the world that can fix those problems.

Well, considering that a sports pro only has a couple of years to earn money to live on for the rest of their lives, unless they want to work at McDonald's when they can no longer do sports, they need to make what they can.
