I connected my iPod, and predictably, it froze Firefox and then everything else so I restarted, and now it doesn't recognize. I ran diagnostics and it says that the iPod is connected but not in left window, so I can't add songs. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, updating (it's already the latest version), deleting temp folders etc.

OMG, the exact same thing happened to me. What type of Ipod do you have? There are different ways to fix the different ipods. When I had my shuffle and the computer wouldn't recognize it, I tried the exact same thing you did and nothing worked. So I just gave up and got another one. My nano stopped working a few days ago, so I went to iTunes help to fix it. It would be easier if I Knew what type of iPod you have though, since there are different ways to fix them.
If you DO have a Nano, here's what to do: toggle the hold button on and off for six seconds. After that, press down BOTH the menu and center buttons at the same time for six seconds. Stop and wait like 10-20 seconds later and the iPod will turn back on. It should be able to connect then. If you need anymore help, e-mail me:julie_ramrattan2003@yahoo.com

I you don't have anything important on there that you can't get back then try to do a restore on the ipod. I might work. If you still have problems then you need to take it to a technition.
