There are several reasons. Take your pick.
1. They are a large population. Their migration even in small numbers can appear big.
2. They are more entrepreneurial than many of their neighbors, including China, Thailand, Singapore etc..
3. Their language is their main advantage. The British rule gave them English. But the Indians did not stop there. They polished it and adapted it as their own and used to suit their business. Therefore they only migrate mainly to English speaking countries in large numbers.
4. There were many countries in the commonwealth. But India used English to their advantage. Smart indeed.
5. Their school curriculum (a tad better than the USA or UK) to give them an edge over their competitors in these targeted countries that eventually migrate to one day.
6. It is an acknowledged fact that the population come from India do much better in schools, colleges and Universities (usually within the top 5 in a class of 60). The reason is their excellent schooling system.
7. It is their culture. Never satisfied with what you do but expect more, demand more, do more to better yourself. This gives them the yearning to go where the opportunities are. USA and UK are it for better opportunities.
8. Money. This is a big thing. Some of the top scientists in research institutions today have Indian parentage or origins in India. They can't make that money in their own country.
9. For a country that is only 59 years young since its independance from British, it has come a long way and made a mark in countries that matter most, which is USA. You make it here, you make it anywhere. So, they throng to USA.
All these facts bear witness to the contributions they have made to humanity in many areas: Religion (Buddhism), Astrology, Astronomy, Yoga, Software, manufacturing, Steel (Mittal steel, world's largest) etc.... The list is too long.
Hope this gives you enough reasons why you see Indians migrate to other countries. In their own country, their Government is their enemy. They do not let these brains thrive in their own nation. So bureaucratic, high handed and corrupted. It is changing slowly now but not fast enough for the impatient Indians.
Can't blame them....!

Humans are no different from migrating birds...
Its a question of one's survival, that oneself feels secure for its present and future.
To determine the exact reason for migrating Indians would be different from person to person... but still at the end of the day you ask them, would you like to return home... surely you'll find an answer 'yes' (but don't know why... )
......just like the migrating birds who return after the season is over.

Considering that the population of India has passed the 1 billion mark, there cannot be a conclusion that most are migrating to other countries; those that do are seeking employment and job opportunities.

I wouldn't say "most" of them are!
Loads of them stay n work in India itself.
There's nothing wrong in migrating to other countries by the way b'coz at the end of the day you need to watch your back!!

I think it is because of the step being taken by our government. i.e. reservations. They are forcing the students to go abroad and study coz they are not providing equal opportunities to all. Why favour one section of the society over the other. Even in private sector we are going to have reservations, everybody wants money for survival. Nobody has the courage to see their family
in pain. So we have to migrate to feed our families.
