In my opinion, the early 90's were great. It was still America.
Then in the mid to late 90's, political correctness, sensitivity training, mindless and boundless sexual harassment charges, out of the closet for all gays, deepening divisions between political parties. Thus was the begining of what some pundits call the "culture war" that we are currently in.
There were some great strides in the 90's, the proliferation of the internet, more technological advancements in that decade then in all the 200 years before it. Someone noted the fall of soviet communism in 1991. Economically, WOW, what a decade - stagnated inflation, leaps in consumer confidence, increases in wages, low unemployment and a housing/stock market boom that even shadowed the boom after WWII. Did I mention the first Gulf War? Nothing makes a country feel better about themselves than completely *****-slapping the 5th largest army in the world in 100 hours.
The music was both silly and awesome. There was crap like hansen, boys-20-men, whoever did the macareana and other really cheeeeesy bands, and hundreds of 'one-hit wonders' but there also was some stuff, that still plays on main-stream radio, nirvana, alice-in-chains, no-doubt Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bush - solid music, and will be classic rock in the future. Metallica went mainstream. Gone were the glam-rockers of the 80's, punk was mostly dead, but the 90's ushered in a new styles like Korn and Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park. The 90's hosted some pretty good rap/R&B too - Kid Rock, Coolio, R. Kelly etc.
TV - ever heard of Friends, Seinfield, SouthPark, Home Improvement, Will & Grace, Simpsons, Married with Children...some of the most successful shows in TV history. Fox TV channels were born, superbowl commercials became better than the game, cable news exploded after the first gulf war.
Political Scandal? I am sure you are will versed about that jack-***. We spent 50 years defeating communisim, just to elect a commie and his wife. OJ Simpson mess was in the 90's
AND Every rock star went to rehab.
The 90's were pretty cool, they were fun, but not nearly as much fun as the 80's!

I'm not going to argue the 90s was better than the 80s, because simply put, it was not. But I strongly feel the 90s is way ahead of the 50s,60s,70s, and 00s. Here's why: 1. Look at the early 1990s, when Chicago won titles 1-3. many 80s stars were still in their prime during this time: Isiah, Dumar, Dominique, Worthy, Magic, ect 2. The league had plenty of superstars like MJ, Hakeem, Robinson, Shaq, Ewing, Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Richmond, Miller, Drexler, Payton, ect. 3. A theory of yours is the 90s weakness is due to the expansion of team, allowing 72 extra players into the league. But here's some facts. 5 of the 6 teams that entered during MJs time happened in 1996, after he won 3 rings. Also, if expansion weakens leagues, then wouldn't the 1980s be weakened because there were 5 new teams added between 1977-1981. Plus more teams means more competition to win a championships. Is it easier to win in a league of 9 (bill russel) or a league of 29. 4. The 90s contained a lot of the same defensive mind sets of the 80s. Most people would agree that the 90s contained the same amount of intensity as the 1980s. John Stockton, MJ, and Malone really set a high standard and the league followed. 5. Every team MJ faced in the NBA finals had 3 all stars, 1 HOFer, and 1-2 all defense players. While that does not match Magic's competition, the West in the 80s was pretty weak. Denver, Utah, Portland, and Houston had some good, but it never matched the east which had 4 amazing teams (Boston, Philly, Detroit, and Milwaukee). *Milwaukee is #2 in wins for the 80s behind LA 6. A lot of 90s stars played in the 80s, and at a high level too (MJ, Stockton, Malone, Ewing, Drexler, Olajuwon, ect) To answer your question, yea, I think they had the talent and mindset to do it. And BTW, you say a lot of BS quotes. Back it up with a link or don't say it. There are too many morons that will believe anything w/o factual evidence to prove it. Not saying Rodman did not say it, but please, back your facts up before Jack or AF24 start believing it.

In 1991 the Soviets gave up and we had a huge peace dividend that saved from defense. The government spent wildly and money was readily available. Of course when reality caught up in 1999 things started to go South. We traded the future for the present and now we only have memories and bills.

Deffinately the music. But I don't miss all the overly politically correct B.S. it seems to have toned down some. But at the same time the general vibe was a bit more laid back.

I loved the music of the 90's. I loved the whole Seattle Grunge scene and even the R&B music was good.
