A democratic republic with an elected two house legislative branch, an appointed judicial branch and an elected executive branch, each having separate but equal duties and powers and with checks and balances of each by the others. It would be wonderful if it worked properly......

A republican (representative) government. It was the south fighting for a government of the people by the people for the people. The north was for the other system. (they won)
