I took 1 pregnancy test this morning and it had 2 lines, but it took a few minutes for the second line to get dark enough to really count. Then I took another 1 not even 20 minutes later and only 1 line came in. [One line means neg. and 2 lines mean pos.] Could I have taken them too close together? The test says you should but don't have to use your first morning urine, which I did for the first test but not the 2nd.
I've also heard that if you take a home test and it says neg. then you actually still have a 50% chance that you are pregnant, but if it says pos. then your probably pregnant. Anyone know if that's true? Thanks in advance!

If you got a positive you are pregnant. Is your period late? When in doubt take another test or see your doctor.

Home pregnancy tests are very accurate when it comes out possitive. As long as it did not take more than 5 minutes to come out possitive it is an accurate result. Negative results on the other hand, are not always accurate. You can get a false negative if there is not enough of the hCG hormone in your urine. That is why you are told to use your first urine of the day, it will have more of the hormone in it. Thus a more accurate result. If you have a possitive test you are pregnant. Getting a negative one afterwards means wither you took the 2nd one too soon or you are only about 4 weeks pregnant. Go to the Dr. and get tested again. If you do not have health insurance you can apply for medicaid, when you make your first apointment ask for information on how to apply.

If one of them says positive, YOU ARE PREGNANT.

If you have not been pregnant very long, you will not have very high levels of HGH (human growth hormone), which is what the test measures. What may have happened is that all night, the HGH was collecting in your urine, so there was enough to be measured on the first test. When you took the second test, there was not enough HGH for it to detect. BTW, this is also why there is that chance of getting a false negative.

I dont think you can get a false positive if it shows up positive then you are pregnant, you can get false negatives but not pos., take another in the morning , or go to a doctor and get a blood test done. Good luck

I took several tests and got both negatives and positives. What gives? See FAQ 9 above; there are many variables-- concentration of urine, sensitivity of the test. Since true false positives are pretty rare, if you get at least one positive HPT, you are probably pregnant. Wait a couple of days and test again or try another brand if you are suspect. If you suspect you have a true false positive (meaning you did not conceive and still got a positive

The second test was only negative because you took them too close together!

As long as you saw a second line no matter how faint...you are pregnant!! The same thing happened to me and I'm 16 weeks pregnant!!

CONGRATS!!

You are pregnant. It doesn't madder how dark the line is, it is postive. As long as there is a line. My one test with my second, you barely seen the line. Also, you did the second test to close. You probally since only waiting 20 mins didn't build up the stuff in your pee to make it postive. that's why morning pee is better. good luck and you should be getting ahold of your doctor real soon.

Cogratulations!!!

Alot of times women who are pregnant don't know because they don't use their first urine of the day! I'm sure this is when you got the positive test!

After the first urine it's harder for a test to confirm the pregnancy hormone, which is why you got a negative result!

If you only held your urine for 20 minutes and then took the second test then those results are invalid. You need to either use first morning urine or hold your urine for 4+ hours without drinking a lot to get accurate results.

False negatives are more common than false positives. Based on those results it sure sounds like you are pregnant. Congratulations. Go to a clinic or your doctor to get the result confirmed, and get started on a pre-natal regimen if you are.
