for historic reasons white rule lasted longer there and when a great man took over in the spirit of reconciliation namely Nelson Mandella there wasn't the utter chaos that there was and is in most other African Countries. basically a great black leader who managed to persuade the whites that they still had a place in the country so they did not leave taking all their skills with them. interesting to compare South Africa with Zimbabwe where a black despot took over.

South Africa's position (control of the cape) made it an important place for restocking ships and trading. Natural resources and a pleasant climate have also helped in development.

Modern South Africa is actually pretty well developed with good infrastructure at least in the cities. Many people don't realize that South Africans have helped to develop a lot of innovations such as heart transplant surgery and lasik eye surgery.

Its a lovely country with a load of minerals and some good farming land. The infrastrucure is pretty good and it has a lot in its favour. The problems in the past with white and black did divert its attention from the economy but with a bit of luck it will shake this off and surge forward. Some very clever people have chosen South Africa as a decent place to live and they add to the general hope that the Country has

South Africa was collonized by the English, believe it or not but they were a lot better then the dutch. Not saying that they were good but better. They took time and effort to invest in their infrastructure because they ( the british) wanted to keep and hold the land. How the S. African got the land back from the British I don't know.

south africa has try to manage its resources a lot better than most african states.
the legacy of apartheid still lives on in south africa and the leaders are not as corrupt as most other african leaders.

It isnt. the rand is decreasing in value against the pound and the dollar every day.

The most politcally and economically stable country in Africa is Botswana.
With gaborone as the fastest growing capital city in the world.

there is as much poverty in southa Africa as there is in any other african country.
