These spots started small and are now getting larger. I have 2 red-earred sliders. One is just smaller than a quarter and the other is about 2 inches in diameter. I have a 30 gallon tank, half full and I have a water filter that acts as a waterfall. Any suggestions?

Hibernating in an indoor tank? This almost never happens unless your water temps are 40-50F. Turtles hibernate hidden in mud.

In our houses, when it gets cold in the water (which should be 75-80F), they stop eating, but continue burning energy, so they starve until the water temps get back up where they need it.

The big question is where are the brown spots? If they are on the turtles, they are either a growth (mold, fungi, algae) or a sign of shell rot. Try this link for help: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/medshell.htm

If the spots are in the tank itself, change the water and scrub the tank down.

in case you got here upon a "turtle" on your backyard, this is in all hazard a "tortoise" which does no longer choose water all around interior the backside of its field. because of the fact it lives on land in assessment to a turtle, which desires a large style of water and can swim, it could do wonderful with a crate, or field, or some thing of the type and a small shallow dish for eating, or maybe one in all those issues which you postpone on the component of a cage that carry water and function a ball on the top, so it does not spill. Then, confident, calling or maybe going by ability of your nearest puppy save for some data and foodstuff could be an surprising concept. The puppy save workers must be of large help. i believe they are very low priced to feed and rather low maintenance. solid success.

If they are on the glass it is just algae. Clean it off when you clean the tank.
